The process begins with a thorough intake interview to understand your child's developmental history, educational experiences, current concerns, and your goals for the evaluation. Existing records, previous evaluations, report cards, and intervention history are reviewed before testing begins.
Testing is typically completed over two or three weekend sessions to minimize missed school time. Depending on the individualized test battery, testing can take between 5 -7 hours.
The evaluation may assess:
Intellectual functioning
Academic achievement
Reading and writing processes
Language skills
Memory and learning
Executive functioning
Attention
Visual-spatial processing
Social-emotional functioning
Teacher questionnaires and rating scales are incorporated whenever appropriate to provide a complete picture across settings.
Assessment results are integrated with developmental history, educational records, classroom performance, and behavioral observations into a comprehensive report.
Each report includes:
Diagnostic conclusions
Individual cognitive profile
Detailed analysis of cognitive processes, attention, memory, executive functions, social, emotional, and adaptive functioning, and acquired knowledge
Evidence-based intervention recommendations
School accommodations and modifications
Suggested IEP goals and objectives
Recommendations for home
A 60- to 90-minute feedback session is scheduled to review the findings, answer questions, and discuss recommendations in detail.
Families leave with a clear understanding of:
What the evaluation found
Why the difficulties are occurring
What interventions should happen next
How to advocate effectively at school
When appropriate, a brief child-friendly feedback session is also available to help children better understand their strengths and learning differences in a supportive, age-appropriate way.
